During Advent, St. Gallen becomes an atmospheric Swiss city of stars. Some 700 stars twinkle above the old town where the lovingly decorated gabled huts of the Christmas market stand shoulder to shoulder. The St. Gallen Christmas market stretches from the Waaghaus past the Bohl to the market square. From 30 November to 23 December, high-quality Swiss crafts will be on sale here. With St. Gallen bratwurst, Swiss cheese specialities, a glass of “Priestertrunk” in the chocolate-maker’s boutique (Chocolaterie) or “Heisser Schütz” mulled beer, the stallholders promote the culinary classics of the region . The St. Galler Biber, a kind of gingerbread biscuit, together with mulled wine tastes as good as a hearty barley soup.
